is closed for good.I used to have dinner there from time to time when they were in Little Taipei more than 20 years ago. I still remember that there are sizzling steaks, toasts, and drinks for about $10, which are affordable. However, not anymore. In the past two years, Sunny Seoul and Haoke are closed. Garden city has changed its name and is no longer Garden city anymore. During this time, friends will gradually become strangers.I feel like getting old. That sounds like my era is near to be ended.
Earlier, a friend took us to Newnham Hotel for dinner. When we were young in Hong Kong, we must all think of a five-star hotel when we heard about “Hotel”.
But in Australia, the Hotel is just a bar. Generally, there are some poker machines and a very ordinary restaurant.
This Newnham road is like this. As soon as you enter, you can see that the decoration is very ordinary and looks relatively old. But we were looking for a place to chat with friends and sit for two or three hours. And there are not many people here. So there is no need to wait and make reservations. And there are ample parking spaces. Also, the location is excellent. It is also one or two streets away from Garden City and only one or two minutes drive away from the entrance and exit of the expressway. So even if you have friends living in the North District, it is very convenient.
Also, their other selling point is that you can get a free kid’s meal ($6) with just one main course. So if you are a family of four with two children, it’s almost half price.

Rice Paper Vietnamese Cuisine in Warrigal Square has been in business for more than ten years. It’s the school holiday now. For Brisbane, it’s essential to take time off to go out with the children, otherwise, the children will be very bored. I took a day off today. I took the children to Southbank by bus, and there are many high-rise buildings in Southbank and Westend, which is entirely different from the style of Sunnybank, which is still a suburb, so it feels like going to oversea. Moreover, there are museums, art galleries, state libraries, and playgrounds. These facilities can definitely “discharge” the children’s energy.
There are more and more Chinese in the south of Brisbane, and the small shopping malls got some Chinese shops.
It’s like going to Runcorn Plaza earlier. Although some restaurants have closed, such as Little Lamb Hot Pot & BBQ, REN Sushi, there are also new restaurants opened, such as the ones I visited before, La Casa Patisserie. This is a Chinese bakery. Personally speaking, they are quite “Hong Kong” style. I bought a green tea bread. This is good, and the texture is soft and has a lot of green flavors. Also, there are coffee buns for sale. I like this kind of bun, but unfortunately, it has been sold out, so I can’t try it. I went to the Compton Road’s mall for lunch last week by accident because I was planning to go to another full Japanese restaurant, and there was no parking space. Fortunately, I found several popular places in the mall, and the most popular is En Sushi. It was only around 12 o’clock when we arrived, but it took 15 minutes to wait for a table. On Google, their reviews are pretty positive, and some people say that this store, originally in Kuraby, and the old site has some reputation.

Sizzling Steak should be a special kind of Hong Kong-style food. When I was young, in Hong Kong, I liked Café and Maxim’s Sizzling Steak. In the past, the set menu at Brisbane Hong Kong Style Restaurant was only about $10, while the Sizzling Steak was $15, 50% more. But, now is the era of high inflation, the set meal is already about $14 for me, and the iron plate steak says about $17 for me, just pay a few dollars more and eat the original Steak! So, I went to Ho Lin Wah Restaurant a few days ago to eat this kind of Steak. The texture of the Steak is tender and juicy. Redcliffe is one of my favorite getaway places. I visit there every two to three months. There are not many people, is not as busy as Gold Coast. I love there to watch the Ocean, although that is a bit windy. Moreover, I cannot go in these recent weeks because we had a polar snap.
I had betty’s burgers years ago.
It was the shop that opened in Surfers Paradise back then, and in my memory, it had the reputation of being the most delicious hamburger of that year on Gold Coast. So in my impression, their burgers are delicious.
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to have dinner at the surface paradise branch again.
