Brisbane Festival

Brisbane Festival is held until 27/9/2014. Those events of Brisbane Festival are carrying in Southbank. In past years, the Santos laser show was a signature event of Brisbane Festival. I am quite disappointed, the laser show won’t be a part of this festival. Instead, there is a Santos live music stage near Goodwill bridge.

SANTOS GLNG TWILIGHT MUSIC SERIES

During the festival, every Thursday and Saturday, there will be  a series of live performance.  For the detailed programs, please visit their website.

Another major event of this year is Exxopolis which is an inflatable sculpture at Culture forecourt. This sculpture is about 1000m² large. That is just big, you can walk in to this sculpture.  Inside itself, there are a lot of walking paths, similar with a maze.  Moreover, it reflects sunlight to  inside. That looks quite fantasy. However, this experience is not free of charge, an adult tickets costs $16.

Exxopolis

Well, there is still a free option.  If you turn left from this inflatable sculpture,  that is Brisbane Airport Light Garden. This is completely free, free to walk-in, free to take photo!

This sculpture contains a lot of bamboo. I guess it represents a bamboo forest.

In additional, a lot  handmade bamboo lanterns  hanged on each tree in Culture forecourt.

Lastly, there will be a firework on 27/9/2014 at 7pm in Southbank, please don’t miss it!

Yesterday is the last day of taiwan festival. This year , the festival took places in four shopping malls and about a week long, without a central location. This was a bit hard to attend their programs.
Magical Show at Taiwan festival 2014
However , i have attended some programs. Firstly, I watched the magician show on last Thursday . The magician turned himself to a ball and was jumping around the stage. That was very funny.

A lot of people were lining up in front of Chatime

Secondly, yesterday, i went to cha time in sunnybank around 1.30pm. We enjoyed the buy one get one free deal. Although we spent an hour for lining up, that was  a huge bargain! Long time waiting was still worthy. Moreover we got a ten dollars voucher from a center staff. We can use it on 7th september. We got a huge benefit on this trip.

Chatime Buy one get one free
Lastly, at night, we went to the  LuBenTan Night Market at calamvale central. There was a full of people. The car park was completely full. We had to park in sunnybank hills shopping town and walked across to there. I have not seen that many chinese in Brisbane ever before!

 LuBenTan Night Market

There were a lot of taiwanese hawker style food stall, but each stall had a long queue in front of itself. Thus, we had two dishes. Firstly, that was Oden. It contains 9 types of fish balls. It did not taste bad at all. Second one is coconut jelly.  That was quite tasty. I like it.

Lastly, at 9pm, a firework show lighted up at the roof of  sunnybank hills shopping town.

Fireworks of Taiwan Festival 2014That was quite fun.

Well, although the Taiwan Festival 2014 ended, LuBenTan Night Market still opens 6pm to 11pm at Calamvale Central every Saturday.

Taiwan Festival Week 2014

Taiwan Festival Week 2014 is coming. This will be held during 1st September ,2014 to 6th September,2014.  This is a week long festival. Moreover, this year, this festival will take place in four shopping centers, Sunnybank Plaza, Sunnypark, Calamvale Central and Sunnybank Hills Shopping center, rather than a single venue like the past years.

According to the information provided by their promotion team,  there will be a lot of performances, such as Loin Dances and Magic Show. For the further details , please go to their website.  Moreover, Taiwan Film Festival  will be held in Hoyts Cinema, Sunnybank Plaza Shopping Centre. In addition, during the festival, some shops in those four shopping centers will offer some discount! Lastly, tomorrow, at Calamvale Central underground carpark, a hawker style night market will be held at there. I heard there will be a lot of traditional Taiwanese food!

That sounds interesting! I may spend some effort to experience this festival!

$5.99 Bento Lunch Box @ Half Time Tea Bar

Last Monday, I have tried a special lunch box at  Half Time Tea Bar in Market Square. That is very value for money! It only costs $5.99. Although its size is not very big, it is big enough as a lunch box.  It has  braised pork, half of  a sausage, a few slices of tofu, half of  an egg, vegetables, beans and rice. Well we can have meat, vegetables, and a variety of side dishes. That is not bad for $5.99.

The most important things is its taste. It is not bad at all. I only paid $5.99.  I think its quality can be considerable as a “good” for $5.99.

If you are lazy to make your own lunch and do not want to spend too much on that, I think this bento box is a good option for you!

From tonight to 27 July, every night, a night market holds in Culture Forecourt, it calls “Night Noodle Markets“.Actually, that is a major event during Good Food Month, Brisbane.

Last night, we went to that events. That was full of people and most of stalls had a few people lining in front of them. Moreover, there were a lot of various types Asian food,  such as Japanese Ramen, Dim Sum and Malaysia Roti. It looks like a Asian hawker market.

I and my wife tried a stall calls Okonomi, we ordered a Japanese Style Pizza. There were a long queue in there. We spent half hour for waiting.

No worries, the chief  used “stir fry” style for making Japanese Style Pizza is a kind of performance.

After 30 minutes, we got our Japanese Style Pizza. That looks a pan cake. A lot of creamy chesse and bacon are inside with soy sauces on top ! Delicious!  Moreover, It was very warm. Last night, the weather is so cold, after we ate that, we felt warm again.

Besides of the food, that is a festival too. A lot of Asian Style Lanterns  are hanging around the culture forecourt.

This Saturday, I and wife went to KU-O for lunch. I found there are some special lunch sets, they are around $12 included a tea and salad.
We love Sashimi a lot! Thus, we ordered Kaisen Don which is a kind of sushi rice with Sashimi on top, but we spent a bit more, Kaisen Don Lunch Special is $15.90, well, that is still more value for money than just ordering Kaisen Don($14.90).
Kaisen Don@KU-O
Although that was a lunch special, that was a full-size Kaisen. It had a few types of Sashimi, such as Tuna, Salmon and Prawn. That was tasty, both of us loved it a lot!!!

If you are looking for a good japanese curry restaurant in Brisbane City, I got two good suggestions for you.

The first suggestion is  Hanaichi.  About ten years, when I was still in university, I have been already “addicted” with their curry, I had my lunch in there about three times per week. Their curry is tasty and value for money. $8.90 is for a big bowl of curry rice. That is huge!

During these recent years, many Korean restaurants opened in sunnybank area. I tried many of them.

Maru is one of my list. This restaurant is located in the heart of sunnybank, just next market square. I tried their Bibimbap (Hot Stone Rice). That is not bad, I felt full, after I had this.

Besides that, I love their dumplings a lot!

Brisbane ANZAC Parade

Today is ANZAC Day which is a national day of remembrance in all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

Thus, this morning, I went to City for ANZAC Parade. I wish to pay tribute to the men and women to service the country. The parade is very large, that was about 125 groups to join this parade.

ANZAC Ex-Service People

Firstly, the first group in the parade are some world war I and II ex-service men and women.  Also, I found there was British ex-service men and women in the parade.
